Amateur Wine Competitions - 2011

Club members did an awesome job participating in the numerous wine competitions this season. Check out the club member Fair results in the August 2011 newsletter.

Also check out the club members who won awards at the Willamette Valley Amateur Winemakers Society competition in the September 2011 newsletter.

New Club Indemnity Waiver
Seeking legal advice on the issue of liability, Board Officers met with a liability attorney. We discovered the most effective way to reduce liability risk in organizations such as ours was to have every board member and any event host take the time to review and set the liability portion of their Homeowners Insurance policy to at least $500,000. In addition, we were advised to have all members (and guests at hosted events) sign a Release of Liability Waiver Form (see links below). The club will commence this process starting with the upcoming summer picnic on Sunday, July 20th. This waiver will be required for attendance. Our eventual goal will be to have the waiver signed only once every year, typically upon the annual payment of dues by the membership. We?re hoping to keep this as simple as possible. We appreciate your understanding and support on this matter.

Club Tasting Score Sheets
Print your own Club tasting score sheets prior to coming to the meeting. Click on the link below and choose between the one or two wines per page format, depending on how many notes to the winemaker you plan to write. Print out enough sheets to judge 10 wines.

Newport Amateur Wine Competition Scores Withheld- Update
The WSWC sent a letter to the Newport Chamber of Commerce regarding the withheld judging notes. Festival Coordinator Sue Cummings has responded by sending letters of apology to all competitors. She conveyed appreciation for our input and let us know that the committee is already at work on the 2009 festival. They are paying close attention to coordinating the amateur competition, and hope that we will submit entries again in 2009. Only one bottle per entry will be required next year.
